Is the room private or shared?
All rooms are shared, fostering a community of peers and fellow "Kinsmen."
Do I need to bring a bed or dresser?
No. All rooms come fully furnished so you can move in with just your personal belongings.
Am I allowed to smoke?
No smoking is allowed inside the facility. We have a designated smoking area located at the rear of the house.
Can I bring my pet?
To ensure the comfort and hygiene of all members in shared spaces, no pets are allowed.
What happens if I miss the 11:00 p.m. curfew?
Consistency is key to our security. Members are expected to be inside by 11:00 p.m. to maintain the safety of the household.
Are utilities included in monthly membership fee?
Yes, all utilities and Wi-Fi are included in your monthly membership, making budgeting simple and predictable.
Is this a drug-free home?
Yes. Kinsman of Neighbors is a strictly drug and alcohol-free environment. We maintain a safe and sober living space for all members.
Are visitors allowed at the facility?
No. To ensure the highest level of privacy and safety, we do not allow outside visitors. We encourage members to meet with family and friends at local community centers, parks, or restaurants.
Do you provide transportation?
No. Members must arrange their own travel and appointments. We can provide information on local transit and veteran travel services.
Is there a long-term lease?
No. We offer flexible month-to-month memberships for all members. This allows you to stay as long as you like without a long-term contract.
Is the facility conveniently located?
Yes. Our location is highly accessible for residents who value independence. We are located within easy walking distance of major public transportation, including both bus and Rapid transit lines. Additionally, essential services—including banks, shopping centers, the library, and local community stores—are all just a short walk away, making it simple to manage your errands and stay connected to the neighborhood.
What if the power goes out? Will I be locked out?
No. Our biometric fingerprint locks are battery-operated, so they remain fully functional even during a power outage.
Where do I park my car?
We have designated member parking located in the rear of the house for those with vehicles.
Who cleans the house?
As an independent living community, members are responsible for cleaning up after themselves and maintaining the shared spaces.
How do I do my laundry?
We provide an on-site washer and dryer for all members to use.
Is there staff on-site at all times?
No. This is an independent living facility, not a nursing home. There is no 24/7 staff; members are expected to manage their own daily routines.
How do I receive my mail?
"A shared mailbox is provided at the house for all members."
What happens if I can no longer live independently?
Our program is for those who can care for themselves. If a member's needs exceed independent living, we will discuss transition options with them or their emergency contact.
Do you help with medications or bathing?
No. Members must be able to manage their own medication, hygiene, and daily activities independently.
What income is acceptable for membership?
We accept Social Security, SSI/SSDI, VA Pensions, and private retirement or pension funds. All income must be verifiable through bank statements or benefit letters during the intake process.
Are meals provided?
No. Members are responsible for their own groceries and meal preparation. You will have full access to our professional, shared kitchen facilities.
How is the facility secured?
We use biometric fingerprint locks and 24/7 exterior surveillance cameras. This ensures only members and staff have access to the premises.
